Make Your Halloween Sweet and Sustainable!

Make Your Halloween Sweet and Sustainable!

At Montezuma’s, we’re all about making a sustainable and ethical difference—and that includes how we celebrate Halloween. With a scary stat like 18,000 tonnes of pumpkins being thrown away each year in the UK, we’re determined to make a change. Instead of carving your pumpkins, why not decorate them and use the flesh and seeds for something delicious and reduce your impact on food waste?

Here at Montezuma’s, we embraced the autumnal spirit with a variety of creative pumpkin designs (check out the image below from our Instagram). But we didn’t stop there! We transformed our pumpkins into mouthwatering homemade Chocolate Pumpkin Pie and Chocolate-Covered Toasted Pumpkin Seeds. Be sure to check out our recipes and creations on Instagram—trust us, they were devoured in no time!

Want to join the fun? Here’s how you can decorate your pumpkins in a planet-friendlier way, with chocolate, paint, or stickers:

How to Decorate Your Pumpkin:

  1. Prep Your Pumpkin: Wash it and wipe it down with a damp cloth. Make sure it’s completely dry so that everything sticks well!

  2. Protect Your Space: Lay some newspaper or a cloth underneath to keep the mess contained.

  3. Decorating Options:

    • Chocolate: Melt our Montezuma’s Buttons, then use a brush or spoon to paint your pumpkin. Let the chocolate set, and voilà, a tasty and creative design! And don’t worry about any mess—this chocolate easily washes off, allowing you to scoop out the insides and repurpose the flesh for your yummy creations!

    • Paint: Grab some non-toxic paint, and let your imagination run wild! Make sure to let it fully dry before moving it.

    • Stickers: Easy and fun—stick on Halloween-themed designs for a no-fuss, mess-free option.

  4. Avoid the Rain: If you’re displaying your masterpiece outside, keep it away from the rain, or your beautiful work might wash away!

Now for the Best Part:

Once you’re done decorating, don’t let your pumpkin go to waste! Repurpose it like we did and turn it into a scrumptious pumpkin chocolate pie. Head to our Instagram for the full recipe video and see how we made it.

And don’t forget—check out our Instagram for details on our Pumpkin Decorating Competition that’s currently underway!
